FAQ

Q: I'm not sure if I need therapy - I just feel overwhelmed a lot. Can you help?

A: Absolutely. Emotional overwhelm is one of my specialties, whether it comes from work stress, family demands, ADHD, anxiety, or just the intensity of modern life. Many of my clients start exactly where you are-- feeling like they should be able to handle everything but struggling with emotional intensity.

Q:- I’m nervous about starting therapy. Is that normal?

A: Therapy can be vulnerable and new, so it’s natural to be nervous. The fear around that can feel overwhelming. Taking steps to seek help for the challenges we face is a huge step. It takes courage to realize we can’t face our issues alone.

Therapy is a space where you can be yourself and come just as you are, including feeling nervous. I’m committed to finding a way to care for your nervousness and ensure sessions are as comfortable as possible.

I’m here if you want to talk about it.

Q: What's the difference between regular stress and burnout?

A: Stress feels like too much pressure; burnout feels like nothing left to give. With stress, you can usually see the light at the end of the tunnel. With burnout, you've lost hope that things will improve. Burnout recovery requires specialized support, not just stress management.

Q: Can you help with work-related stress and burnout?

A: Yes! I work with many professionals dealing with workplace overwhelm, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, and burnout. We'll address both the practical aspects (boundaries, communication) and the emotional components (regulation, self-compassion).

Q: Do you only work with people who have ADHD or anxiety?

A: Not at all! While I specialize in ADHD and anxiety, my emotional regulation approach helps anyone who experiences intense emotions, perfectionism, high sensitivity, or feeling "hijacked" by their responses. You don't need a diagnosis to benefit from emotional regulation therapy.

Q: How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

A: Take your time to read through my website. If you sense that I may be a good fit based on what you are reading, you can call me.

You can ask me how I work as a therapist, or any other questions you may have that are specific to you. You’ll also be able to share what’s going on for you and we can determine how I could best be of service to you.

My approach is not going to work for everyone. What’s most important to me is that you find someone who you feel is the right fit for you. We can explore that together.

Q: What can I expect during the first session?

A: Overall, you can think of the first session as a structured assessment that helps me get to know you and the challenges that brought you into treatment. I’ll invite you to share more about yourself and we can also talk about what’s worked or not worked for your mental health in the past.

Some questions that I like to ask during a first session include:

  • What brought you to therapy?

  • Have you gone to therapy before? How did that go?

  • What goals would you like to reach by going to therapy?

You can ask me questions as well. You might be curious about my experience or how future sessions work.

The most important part of a first session is that you discover if I’m a good fit for you. If you feel safe, accepted, and comfortable with me, we can discuss if you’d like to meet again.

Q: How long will therapy take?

A: You might be asking about how long therapy will take because you are currently struggling and want relief fast.

If this is true for you, I want you to know that on average, my new clients start seeing positive effects after the first 3-4 sessions.

By that point, they feel like they have learned some ways to manage challenging stuff in their lives a bit better

The total duration of therapy varies from client to client. Some of my clients find 6-12 weeks to be enough to resolve immediate challenges. While other clients feel more supported by longer-term therapy.

We will work together to find the length of time that works for you.

Q: I've tried therapy before and it didn't help. How is this different?

A: My approach focuses on practical, evidence-based tools you can use immediately. Rather than just talking about problems, we'll work on specific techniques for emotional regulation, boundary-setting, and communication that you can practice between sessions.

Q: How can I get started?

A: It's simple: give me a call! We will have a brief conversation about what you're looking for and we can figure out logistics from there.
